I spent the morning looking out on the Isle of Jean named for Jean Knight, the Empress of the Isle.

I can see it from one of my favorite restaurants, Cosmic Cafe. Cosmic Cafe sits on Kelly next to Lloyd Hall recreation center just east of Philly’s iconic Boathouse Row.

The Cosmic Cafe menu features all day breakfast platters and lunch staples like tuna salad sandwiches.

But what I really love about this place is the love. They always show Peanut great care and send out a little extra bacon for him.

Today was no different. When I walked into the restaurant to order, the young man behind the counter saw my mask and put his on. Such a simple and powerful act of love.

As I ate my breakfast and read my audiobook (The Saint of Bright Doors), I enjoyed the view of the isle that shares my name.

Then, I went for a walk on that blessed isle. The boardwalk is part of the Waterworks and maintained by Jean Wright and other volunteers with the support of Philly Parks and Rec. According to Billy Penn, the isle was originally called Silt Island because its origin. It’s a great hidden gem on the edge of Fairmount Park.

Then, we stopped by Paine’s Park. I love the art at the skate park in sight of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

I feel like there’s a metaphor somewhere in this post, but let’s not wax poetic.
